When do you play? Tuesday nights starting Oct 23th until early April. One game per week played between 5:30pm and 8:30pm. All matches are at the YMCA downtown Sudbury. YMCA membership is not required to participate in league, but the fee is higher for non-members to cover entry into the facility on league nights.
How does league night work? There are 8 teams in the league, and each team has 6 players. Level 1 players are advanced, level 7 players are new to the game. If you are unsure of your level, let the organizers know when you fill out your registration and a test match can be arranged to assess your skill level. On each league night your team will play an encounter against one other team. This means you will play one match at your level to earn points for your team. The team with the most points wins the encounter. Statistics are kept to determine the League Champion at the end of the season. We will be using three courts at the YMCA, so all 8 teams play every Tuesday.
What if I can’t make it every Tuesday? If you cannot play regularly on Tuesday nights, you might want to consider registering as a spare (no fee). That means you will be contacted to play a match when a player at your level cannot make it.
How much does league cost? $90 for YMCA members, $210 for non-YMCA members. This fee also includes a ticket to the year-end social event in April.
Who referees the matches? Losing players from the previous match must stay to referee the next match on their court. If you are unsure of the rules, there are many people who are happy to assist you until you are comfortable with the score sheet and rules.
All skill levels are welcome in the Sudbury Squash League, and if you are unsure of your level we can help. If you do not know the rules or are uncomfortable, a FREE intro to squash session will be available by request.
